Cement Finisher

Division: Facilities Management & Development – Light Construction
Location: 6200 Wheeler St., Houston, TX 77023

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Responsibilities

• Prepare, repair, and finish a variety of hard surfaces, including:
  • Setting and pulling concrete forms
  • Cutting and placing steel rods on studs
  • Batching, pouring, and finishing concrete and other masonry projects
• Perform basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities, and equipment (e.g., BBQ pits, picnic tables, trash cans)
• Use and operate various hand tools and equipment
• Review work orders and reports
• Perform other duties as needed

Working Conditions

The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as:

• Regular climbing of ladders
• Lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis
• Assuming awkward positions for long periods of time

Routine exposures include:

• Significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution
• Periodic exposure to chemical substances
• Physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions (typically acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling)
• One year of experience in cement or concrete finishing work
• Valid Class C Driver’s license and compliance with COH driving policy

Preferences

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants who possess the qualifications necessary for the position and are among the most qualified candidates.

Pay

Pay Grade 11 (salary offered based on candidate’s qualifications and pay rates of other employees in this classification)

This position is subject to random drug testing. If promotional, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
