Cement Finisher, (A262730-2), 204, Street Construction

Smooths and finishes freshly poured concrete. Applies curing or surface treatments. Installs, maintains, and restores various masonry structures such as floors, sidewalks, recreation courts, and patios.

Responsibilities

• Pours concrete for curbing and gutters; patches curbs; finishes concrete and places poles.
• Performs brick laying duties; mixes and levels mortar and lays brick.
• Repairs asphalt, paves streets, and patches potholes.
• Sets steel rods and ties rebar.
• Performs related work as required.
• Drives a City vehicle for City business use.

Work Environment

• Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
• Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
• Work environments include office, outdoor, street (near moving traffic), construction site, confined spaces, vehicles, and warehouse environments.
• Exposures include extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), loud noises (85+ decibels), moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, communicable diseases, and individuals who are hostile or irate.
• Frequent local travel required.

Physical Demands

• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
• Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, though walking and standing are required occasionally.

Qualifications

• At least one (1) year of general experience.
• Experience in concrete work is preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver's License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
