About the role

The CEM Manager facilitates collaboration among employees at CEM to align with the vision of SSA Terminals and achieve annual goals set by the Vice President for CEM. This role involves representing company management, overseeing safety, productivity, labor relations, and operational execution.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key representative of company management, accountable for safety, productivity, labor relations, and operational execution.
  • Exercises independent judgment and management authority over hiring, assignment, direction, evaluation, discipline, and termination of assigned labor personnel, in accordance with company policy and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Lead a small office staff of SSA Terminals employees, overseeing administrative processes and supporting the team.
  • Analyze and implement systems of efficiency to ensure CEM has the latest and most effective tools and equipment for mechanics.
  • Develop and implement chassis, container, and refrigerated container maintenance procedures.
  • Supervise personnel to ensure consistent adherence to organizational requirements and goals.
  • Communicate job expectations, develop, coordinate, and implement job policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to establish contracts and engage customers regularly to ensure satisfaction and address concerns.
  • Participate in the timely resolution of on-the-job grievances.
  • Research and implement new technologies that benefit the overall growth of the shop.
  • Collaborate with the Union on safety-related policies and procedures.
  • Conduct safety audits, attend company safety meetings, and meet with individual staff members to promote safe work activities.
  • Minimize spending by eliminating overstock.
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets for increasing profits and improving services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Manager or other managerial role.
  • Working knowledge of FMCS-controlled chassis, ISO containers, ISO reefer containers, and diesel generators.
  • Previous experience working with a strong union.
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess the skills to create metrics needed to measure work processes and commit to constant improvement with a zero-defect goal.
  • Valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Yes, supervising Union employees is part of this role.

Work Environment

The job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment. Exposure to computer screens is common. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
