We're hiring a Cellular Biologist III to join our Oncology lab in New York, where you'll work hands-on with patient-derived organoids to support cutting-edge research on new and more effective cancer treatments. This production-focused role involves collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of stem cell biologists, data scientists, automation engineers, and software developers in one of the most advanced automated platforms for cell biology worldwide.

About the role

The Cellular Biologist III works directly under the supervision of the Senior Research Scientist and alongside a team of experienced cellular biologists and specialists. You will lead and mentor junior technical staff and departmental assistants, demonstrating effective mental concentration and visual attention. Flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required based on research demands.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, monitor, and mentor other biologists in automated and manual cell culture and related activities, including handling and processing primary materials such as tumor tissues and blood samples.
  • Culture tissue-derived organoids, fibroblasts, and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
  • Execute protocols for organoid derivation, fibroblast expansion, iPSC expansion and QC, and differentiations on robotic platforms or manually as required.
  • Contribute to molecular, phenotypic, and imaging assays, as well as automated drug screenings using 3D organoid systems.
  • Design and optimize organoid co-culture protocols to model tumor and tissue microenvironments.
  • Manage specimen storage and withdrawal from liquid nitrogen and freezers, and prepare media and reagents.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory operations team to ensure accurate and efficient supply of reagents and consumables.
  • Plan, monitor, and track resources and expenditures across projects; maintain inventory control and coordinate space.
  • Document results, troubleshoot issues, and analyze variations in testing protocols.
  • Lead modifications and refinements of techniques and procedures, partnering with engineers and other staff for large-scale improvements.
  • Create and modify SOPs, file tickets to software and automation teams, and lead inter- and intra-team meetings.
  • Exchange information through demonstration and instruction.

Requirements

  • Experience with human/mammalian cell culture, 3D culture systems, and iPSC culture, along with broad expertise in cell and molecular biology techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and improve biological workflows or contribute to automation/software tools (experience with liquid handling automation preferred).
  • Ability to coordinate and perform multiple, concurrent assignments across complex workflows in multi-faceted projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and interact professionally with all team members.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of experience.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree and 7 years of experience.

Pay

$49,163 – $82,311 per year, depending upon experience.
