Cell Test Engineer, Cell Qualification
About the role
This is an opportunity to work in the Cell Qualification and R&D group, which is responsible for testing and qualifying Tesla’s next-generation Li-ion battery cells and developing new cell test methods. We are looking for a Cell Test Engineer to join our Gigafactory Nevada Cell Characterization Lab.
Responsibilities
- Develop, plan and execute Li-ion cell testing using cell cycling equipment, thermal chambers, specialized temperature control fixtures and circulators
- Write test plans, propose design of experiment, document test setup and instrumentation, collect, analyze and summarize results in test reports
- Support the design, build and assembly of test fixtures for battery testing
- Perform cell level non-destructive analytical techniques to analyze mechanisms of energy and power loss in lithium-ion cells
- Implement validation method to ensure the highest possible data integrity from the lab and support data management system expansion
- Identify and troubleshoot test, equipment and setup as needed
- Lead/perform routine maintenance of testing equipment
- Train and mentor technicians in the operation and upkeep of test equipment and lab processes
- Be a member of a cross-functional product development team to help determine the ideal cell chemistry and design for all Tesla products
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
Familiarity with Lithium-based battery technologies and their degradation mechanisms
Experience working with cell cycling hardware (Arbin, Neware, etc.)
Proficiency in Python and/or other data analysis and visualization tools
Experience with database (SQL)
Knowledge of standard electronics tools including DC meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes
Proven ability to work independently under high pressure and comfortable with working in a multifaceted hands-on environment
Exhibit outstanding attention to details
