CEI Inspector

About the role

We are seeking a CEI Inspector to provide field observation, testing, and measurement services as a liaison with project stakeholders—including the client, engineer, contractor, utility agencies, and regulatory authorities—during the construction phase of a project. The Inspector will work within a team environment, assisting the Team Leader/Senior Inspector in observing, measuring, testing, and documenting the progress, quality, and quantity of work performed by the contractor.

The Inspector will perform inspection, testing, and material sampling services to ensure conformance to plans and specifications for all roadway, structure, and specialty items, primarily comprising asphalt, earthwork, and concrete elements. Responsibilities include observing, measuring, and recording all construction quantities for contractor payment, with an understanding of mathematical calculations associated with quantity measurement. Measurements will be documented in field books for review by the engineer, client, or auditors to ensure compliance with contract requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform field observations, testing, and measurements in an outdoor working environment.
• Safely operate a company vehicle.
• Work on uneven terrain and use ladders frequently.
• Haul equipment and materials up to 40 lbs.
• Work in inclement weather conditions.
• Work independently and within a team-focused environment.
• Perform repetitive bending, lifting, and overhead tasks.
• Work on your feet for up to 8 hours a day.
• Work overtime, nights, and weekends as required.
• Perform field measurements and calculations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two (2) years of related experience in construction inspection, with at least one (1) year in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection.
• Understanding of FDOT construction project administration methods and processes, including training in MAC, BlueBeam, Hummingbird, and Site Manager programs.
• CTQP Certification in Asphalt, Concrete, Earthwork, pile driving, and drilled shafts.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies or conflicts, solve problems, and develop documentation.
• Ability to utilize survey equipment (e.g., GPS Rovers and Base systems) to verify field measurements and survey grades during construction, providing real-time feedback on compliance with project requirements.
• Strong time management skills, organization, and a positive attitude.
• Ability to accomplish goals with minimal supervision.
