CEI Inspector

About the Role

We are seeking a CEI Inspector to provide field observation, testing, and measurement services as a liaison with project stakeholders including the client, engineer, contractor, utility agencies, and regulatory authorities during the construction phase of a project. The Inspector will work within a team environment, assisting the Team Leader/Senior Inspector in observing, measuring, testing, and documenting the progress, quality, and quantity of work performed by the contractor.

The Inspector will perform inspection, testing, and material sampling services for conformance to plans and specifications for all roadway, structure, and specialty items, primarily comprising asphalt, earthwork, and concrete elements. Responsibilities include observing, measuring, and recording all construction quantities for contractor payment, understanding mathematical calculations associated with quantity measurement, and maintaining field books for review by the engineer, client, or auditors.

Responsibilities

• Perform field observation, testing, and measurement services during construction.
• Assist in documenting the progress, quality, and quantity of contractor work.
• Inspect and test materials (asphalt, earthwork, concrete) for conformance to plans and specifications.
• Observe, measure, and record construction quantities for contractor payment.
• Perform mathematical calculations for quantity measurement and maintain accurate field books.
• Work in an outdoor environment, including uneven terrain and inclement weather conditions.
• Safely operate a company vehicle and use ladders frequently.
• Hauling equipment and materials up to 40 lbs.
• Work independently, with repetitive bending/lifting, including overhead tasks.
• Work on your feet for 8 hours a day; overtime, nighttime, and weekend hours may be required.
• Perform field measurements and calculations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two (2) years of related experience in construction inspection, with at least one (1) year in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection.
• Understanding of FDOT construction project administration methods and processes, including training in MAC, BlueBeam, Hummingbird, and Site Manager programs.
• CTQP Certification in Asphalt, Concrete, Earthwork, pile driving, and drilled shafts.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies or conflicts, solve problems, and develop documentation.
• Proficiency in utilizing survey equipment (e.g., GPS Rovers and Base systems) to verify field measurements and survey grades during construction.
• Ability to provide real-time feedback on whether construction services meet project requirements.
• Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to accomplish goals with minimal supervision and work effectively in a team-focused environment.
