CDOC Dentist - (PUEBLO)

About the role

This full-time position provides routine and emergency dental care, assessment, diagnosis and treatment to offenders incarcerated in the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC).

Responsibilities

• Provide professional diagnosis and treatment of oral pathology for offenders in both routine and emergency settings.
• Provide dental care that includes, but is not limited to, diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontal, oral surgery, and prosthetic services.
• Develop individual patient treatment plans based on agency and professional treatment standards.
• Treat dental disease of offenders or refer offenders to specialists for treatment.
• Communicate with outside providers and internal peers to ensure continuity of care.
• Collaborate with other health care professionals and clinical services staff regarding offender health issues, policies, transfers, classifications, and medical legal concerns.
• Participate in various decision-making committees to resolve system issues.
• Aid in developing policies, protocols, standards, or guidelines.
• Maintain offenders’ health records to include dental holds, special diets, and work restrictions.
• Respond to offender grievances.
• Manage daily dental clinic operations, including tool control, chemical control, infection control practices, biohazardous waste, hazardous materials, and radiation control exposure control regulations.
• Plan workloads and schedules, as well as those of any subordinates.
• Maintain agency compliance with relevant statutes and professional standards in dentistry.
• Provide input to supervisors on dental unit policies and procedures, dental treatment standards, and dental unit budgetary and staffing needs.
• Provide clinical guidance and direction, consultation, and education relative to dental assistants' performance.
• Supervise clinical tasks and procedures as required under the Dental Practice Law.
• Guide dental care staff for Kite log entry and offender appointment scheduling to maximize efficiency in providing dental treatment.
• Perform dental patient education related to preventative care and self-care, including appropriate hygiene, post-dental procedure care, signs and symptoms of dental and periodontal disease, and signs and symptoms of the need for immediate health dental care.

Requirements

• Licensure: Applicant must possess a current, valid Dentist license issued by the Colorado Dental Board.
• Experience: Experience providing dental services to indigent, under-served, community-based, and institutional populations is preferred.
• Competencies: Self-control, ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations, tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interaction, commitment to patient care that is team-oriented, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to read and comprehend the English language, ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing, ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind, exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across programs, facilities, and with external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Licensure as a Dentist from the Colorado Dental Board.
• Additional Work Experience: Complete the "Work Experience" section of the application to reflect relevant experience related to the job.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: Experience providing dental services as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
