CDOC Boiler House Lieutenant CSTS II (Buena Vista)

About the role

This Correctional Support Trades Supervisor II (CSTS II) position is the Boiler House Lieutenant for the Buena Vista Correctional Complex, a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) prison facility in Buena Vista, CO. The position ensures the safety and security of the general public, staff, and inmates; operates facility Boiler House systems safely, efficiently, and compliantly; supervises assigned staff and inmate work crews; and promotes the Colorado Department of Corrections Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security through clear communication and adherence to agency regulations.
• Supervise assigned staff and inmate work crews, setting work standards and promoting high performance.
• Train and instruct staff and inmates in the appropriate use of tools, equipment, and procedures.
• Ensure inmate evaluations are complete, track and calculate hours, and resolve grievances.
• Coordinate logistical support with other trades and shops to use resources efficiently.
• Complete required documentation such as work orders and incident reports.
• Perform "hands-on" instructional work alongside staff and inmates, ensuring proper operations of facility systems.
• Implement procedures for efficient inventory and eliminate theft, waste, and loss.
• Update drawings and maintain records, files, and drawings pertinent to the field of expertise.

Requirements

This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of employment experience in boiler operations, performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Alternatively, a combination of three (3) years of boiler operations experience and either Building/Equipment Maintenance or Correctional experience may be considered. Additionally, applicants must obtain an Active Colorado Stationary Engineer License within four (4) years of hire.

Intermediate computer keyboarding skills, manipulation of computerized inventory module, and effective communication via computer-based e-mail. Ability to work with inmates through daily supervision and instruction in various settings. Self-control, emotional stability, and mental resilience under pressure. Ability to respond to emergency situations involving inmates or maintenance issues. Reading and comprehending the English language. Fluent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

Compensation details will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

Schedule

The resulting eligibility list may be used to fill future vacancies. Positions may be subject to facility call back, working additional hours or shifts to maintain safety and operations, working shift work and rotating weekends, working outside during inclement weather, and in close proximity to industrial equipment.
