The mission of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is to serve, secure, and protect the people of Tennessee. The department ensures the safety and general welfare of the public through the operations of its six primary divisions: Tennessee Highway Patrol, Driver Services, Tennessee Highway Safety Office, Office of Homeland Security, Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN), and Administrative Services. Headquartered in Nashville, the department maintains a strong statewide presence with approximately 2,500 employees.
About the Role
This in-person role, based in Davidson County, oversees and completes compliance reviews, develops training materials, manages equipment inventory processes, and follows State and Federal compliance guidelines within the CDI Grant division.
Responsibilities
- Travel 40-50% of the time to Columbia for Commercial Driver's License (CDL) activities or throughout the state for monitoring visits.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, kneeling, and climbing in and out of CDL trucks multiple times during training and monitoring visits.
- Ensure all CDL testing equipment is calibrated, functional, and compliant with testing standards and accessibility requirements.
- Coordinate procurement and approve invoices as needed.
- Manage a team of 3-4 individuals on the training team and a team of 3-4 Program Monitors.
- Organize and lead in-person and virtual training sessions and refresher courses.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including rain and cold.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to five or more years of full-time increasingly responsible professional staff administrative experience.
- Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time increasingly responsible sub-professional, paraprofessional, or professional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years.
- Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate coursework in public administration, business administration, or another acceptable field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
- Alternative: Four years of increasingly responsible professional administrative services experience with the State of Tennessee.
