About the role
A CDL Driver Trainer is responsible for teaching new and inexperienced drivers how to operate a commercial vehicle. This may include coupling, backing, city driving, and mountain road driving. The Trainer will develop a training curriculum specific to the company and will be required to keep up-to-date on current driving regulations. They must possess excellent communication skills in order to properly instruct their students.
Responsibilities
- Preparing and administering training for new and current drivers.
- Developing curricula, conducting classes, and overseeing behind-the-wheel training.
- Maintaining student records and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Assist in developing or updating curriculum and training materials as needed.
- Assess student learning needs and tailor instruction accordingly.
- Deliver classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and/or web-based learning modules per assigned schedule.
- Coordinating scheduling of classes and appointments; inspecting training vehicles; maintaining equipment;
- Providing accountability and performance feedback to management.
- Evaluating students' progress and giving feedback
- Training new hires on how to fill out paperwork related to their job
- Administering oral and written exams.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required
- Two plus years of proven experience in commercial truck driving
- A clean driving record with no moving violations
- Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles
- Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
- Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
- Map reading and route planning experience
- A self-starter who works well independently
- Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful
- A reliable and dependable work ethic
- Able to follow spoken and written instructions in English
