About the role

A CDL Driver Trainer is responsible for teaching new and inexperienced drivers how to operate a commercial vehicle. This may include coupling, backing, city driving, and mountain road driving. The Trainer will develop a training curriculum specific to the company and will be required to keep up-to-date on current driving regulations. They must possess excellent communication skills in order to properly instruct their students.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and administering training for new and current drivers.
  • Developing curricula, conducting classes, and overseeing behind-the-wheel training.
  • Maintaining student records and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Assist in developing or updating curriculum and training materials as needed.
  • Assess student learning needs and tailor instruction accordingly.
  • Deliver classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and/or web-based learning modules per assigned schedule.
  • Coordinating scheduling of classes and appointments; inspecting training vehicles; maintaining equipment;
  • Providing accountability and performance feedback to management.
  • Evaluating students' progress and giving feedback
  • Training new hires on how to fill out paperwork related to their job
  • Administering oral and written exams.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required
  • Two plus years of proven experience in commercial truck driving
  • A clean driving record with no moving violations
  • Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles
  • Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
  • Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
  • Map reading and route planning experience
  • A self-starter who works well independently
  • Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful
  • A reliable and dependable work ethic
  • Able to follow spoken and written instructions in English
