About the role
Residential Rear Load Drivers service customers by collecting and hauling waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. This position operates various types of trucks and services many different routes in various areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide trash or recycling removal services to customers safely and compliantly by emptying containers into the truck and hauling to disposal sites.
- Routinely enter/exit the truck approximately 300-500 times per day, depending on the assigned route.
- Pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings as required.
- Replace trash/recycling receptacles neatly at the curb or designated area.
- Clean up waste spills and overflows.
- Maintain and update route and driver log sheets.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete logs.
- Professionally interact with internal and external customers, providing excellent customer service.
- Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body; ensure cleanliness of the truck cab.
- Deliver trash or recycling containers as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid Class B CDL.
- Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire.
- At least 19 years of age.
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
- No DUI’s or OVI’s within the last 5 years (or 2 in the last 10 years).
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to read and speak English.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to read and understand a map.
- Excellent truck driving and maneuvering skills.
- General knowledge of truck mechanics.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Waste industry experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Continuously pushing/pulling a maximum of 75 lbs.
- Frequently lifting/carrying a maximum of 75 lbs.
- Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a maximum of 100 lbs.
- Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions.
- Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
- Frequently stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and/or balancing.
- Frequently sitting, standing, and walking.
Additional Working Conditions
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to travel between offices as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed.
