About the role
Residential Rear Load Drivers service customers by collecting and hauling waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. This position operates various types of trucks and services many different routes in various areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide trash or recycling removal services to customers safely and compliantly by emptying containers into the truck and hauling to disposal sites
- Routinely enter/exit the truck approximately 300-500 times per day, depending on the assigned route
- Pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings as required
- Replace trash/recycling receptacles neatly at the curb or designated area
- Clean up waste spills and overflows
- Maintain and update route and driver log sheets
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete logs
- Professionally interact with internal and external customers, providing excellent customer service
- Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body; ensure cleanliness of the truck cab
- Deliver trash or recycling containers as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Valid Class B CDL
- Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire
- At least 19 years of age
- No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
- No DUI’s or OVI’s within the last 5 years (or 2 in the last 10 years)
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
- Ability to read and speak English
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and understand a map
- Ability to enter/exit the truck approximately 300-500 times per day
- Excellent truck driving and maneuvering skills
- General knowledge of truck mechanics
- Good written and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with customers
Experience & Knowledge
- Waste industry experience is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Continuously pushing/pulling a maximum of 75 lbs
- Frequently lifting/carrying a maximum of 75 lbs
- Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a maximum of 100 lbs
- Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
- Continuously working in areas with dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
- Frequently stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing
- Frequently sitting, standing, and walking
Additional Working Conditions
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste
- Ability to travel between offices as required
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Ability to work overtime
