About the role

Residential Rear Load Drivers service customers by collecting and hauling waste or recycling materials to a disposal site or recycling plant. This position operates various types of trucks and services many different routes in various areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trash or recycling removal services to customers safely and compliantly by emptying containers into the truck and hauling to disposal sites
  • Routinely enter/exit the truck approximately 300-500 times per day, depending on the assigned route
  • Pull or push containers from enclosures or inside buildings as required
  • Replace trash/recycling receptacles neatly at the curb or designated area
  • Clean up waste spills and overflows
  • Maintain and update route and driver log sheets
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete logs
  • Professionally interact with internal and external customers, providing excellent customer service
  • Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body; ensure cleanliness of the truck cab
  • Deliver trash or recycling containers as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Valid Class B CDL
  • Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire
  • At least 19 years of age
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
  • No DUI’s or OVI’s within the last 5 years (or 2 in the last 10 years)
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Ability to read and speak English
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read and understand a map
  • Ability to enter/exit the truck approximately 300-500 times per day
  • Excellent truck driving and maneuvering skills
  • General knowledge of truck mechanics
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with customers

Experience & Knowledge

  • Waste industry experience is a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Continuously pushing/pulling a maximum of 75 lbs
  • Frequently lifting/carrying a maximum of 75 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a maximum of 100 lbs
  • Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Continuously working in areas with dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Frequently stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing
  • Frequently sitting, standing, and walking

Additional Working Conditions

  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to work overtime
