Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Operating a roll-off truck and ancillary equipment to collect waste
  • Completing pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and reports, daily truck reports, route sheets, and other documentation as requested by supervisor
  • Communicating vehicle mechanical problems to mechanic and supervisor immediately
  • Maintaining route quality standards as predetermined by management
  • Operating truck and equipment using prescribed techniques to eliminate driver-induced mechanical failures
  • Following all safety standards, equipment checks, and precautions in performance of all duties
  • Complying with all federal, state/provincial, local, and company rules on safety and vehicle operation
  • Communicating potential hazards to Supervisor/Lead prior to performing tasks
  • Maintaining a clean vehicle by cleaning the cab interior and exterior
  • Reporting all accidents or incidents to supervisor(s) immediately
  • Exhibiting a professional demeanor, manner, and appearance at all times
  • Ensuring all required personal protective equipment is worn at all times
  • Maintaining accurate records of services performed
  • Working closely with supervisor to improve routing efficiencies
  • Attending safety and branch meetings
  • May be required to work overtime
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management

Requirements

Requirements for the role include:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Minimum one (1) year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate
  • Ability to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards
  • Ability to demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate the equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Ability to operate any vehicle or equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with others
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and apply to the job
  • Ability to write simple reports and correspondence
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple correspondence and instructions
  • Ability to apply common sense reasoning to carry out uninvolved written and/or oral instructions and to solve general problems
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision

Physical/Mental Demands

The role requires:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell
  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds
  • Sitting is required up to 75% of the time due to the primary function of driving
  • Ability to work in usually loud conditions

Working Conditions

The role involves:

  • Frequent exposure to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy, extreme hot and cold weather conditions
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles
  • Working in an outdoor environment up to 100% of the time
  • Working route away from branch location on a continuous basis throughout the day
  • Occasional work in high precarious places
  • Working in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly
