About the role

This is an entry-level driver training position. The Driver Trainee learns to drive a tractor-trailer or straight truck on interstate, local, regional, and overnight routes to deliver and unload food and related products. Routes are completed safely in accordance with company policies and DOT regulations. The role involves professional interaction with customers, vendors, and coworkers, and requires teamwork to support America’s food distribution system.

Schedule

Home daily; four-night work week with dispatch between 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. Weekly minimum guarantee of $1,450.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and complete PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program.
  • Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip safety checks, including DOT-compliant inspections of tractor/truck and trailer.
  • Report safety issues and required repairs.
  • Follow DOT regulations and company safe driving policies; report hazards immediately.
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; verify counts and invoices.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and legibly.
  • Drive to customer locations and deliver orders according to schedule.
  • Unload products, transport items to customer storage, and perform damage control checks.
  • Verify deliveries with customers and obtain signatures; collect payments where required.
  • Load customer returns, secure trailer, and ensure all equipment is locked/secured.
  • Unload damaged goods and returns; complete necessary paperwork.
  • Remove equipment, materials, and trash from trailers; maintain cleanliness.
  • Record hours of service and maintain logs per DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock, and trailers.
  • Secure equipment and complete end-of-shift paperwork.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Internal candidates: 1 year of service in good standing and ability to attain CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.
  • External candidates: 0-6 months with a CDL; valid CDL A required.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
  • Pass post-offer drug test and road test.
  • Valid or attainable DOT Health Card.
  • Able to hand-lift and use equipment (e.g., two-wheeler, lift gate) to move product cases/freight (60–90 pounds) throughout shift.

Pay
