CDL Class A Delivery Driver 6+ Months Experience - Hiring Event 8/13
Hiring event: August 13th from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at 1520 Elkton Rd., Elkton, MD. $9,000 welcome bonus for new employees and $2,500 referral bonus for current employees (terms apply).
About the role
Food and food service delivery drivers fulfill a critical role in the country’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers not only ensure customers’ products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in good condition, but they are also the face of our company—building lasting relationships with customers. The CDL-A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck interstate on local, regional, and overnight routes to deliver and unload various food and food-related products to customers. All routes are expected to be completed safely in accordance with all Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Responsibilities
- Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner.
- Functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company.
- Performs all required safety checks (e.g., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations; inspects tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and takes appropriate action as needed.
- Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required.
- Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies; immediately reports all safety hazards.
- Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; performs count checks of items and verifies customer invoices of loaded products.
- Checks and completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
- Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed.
- Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule.
- Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas.
- Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy.
- Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures; collects money (cash or checks) where required.
- Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors; ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured.
- Unloads damaged goods and customer returns, bringing them to driver check-in and completing necessary paperwork.
- Unloads all equipment and materials, and removes trash from trailers as required.
- Completes daily record of hours of service and enters logs in accordance with federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clear and clean as required.
- At the end of the shift, secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 6+ months of commercial driving experience.
- Valid CDL-A.
- Must be 21+ years of age.
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
- Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
- Pass road test.
- Attain or have a valid current DOT Health Card and/or be able to secure a new one.
- Able to hand-lift and utilize a two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout the shift (product generally ranges from 10–35 pounds and up to approximately 60–90 pounds, depending on location).
Schedule
Home daily; four-night work week (dispatch between 8:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.). Weekly minimum guarantee of $1,450.
Pay
$80,000 – $90,000 per year.
