CDL Bore Operator

About the role

Reports To: Outside Plant Project Manager
Travel Potential: 10-25%

Key Responsibilities

• Set up equipment including the drill, water tanks, and grounding of the machine.
• Operate drilling equipment and various other construction equipment.
• Confirm with locator or lead the bore path to drill.
• Drill the predetermined path to the exit point.
• Continue communication with the locator to confirm the location of the drill head.
• Auxiliary tasks include assisting with potholing and remediation, setting hand holes, completing tie-ins, installing proper pulling gear and hooking up products, conducting post-job quality checks, and performing other general duties as directed.
• Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A) with a satisfactory driving record.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Minimum 1 year of directional drilling experience.
• Experience completing tie-ins, pulling gear, and hooking up products.
• Experience working with underground utilities and telecommunications construction practices.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to comply with the “Operator’s Manual” for equipment and vehicles used.
• Ability to understand and follow all quality and safety policies and procedures.
• Ability to work and communicate as part of a team with other craft and labor workers.
• Ability to manage time effectively.
• Ability to lift at minimum 50 lbs.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, snow, ice, rain, etc.
• Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs, moving your whole body, reaching, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
• Ability to work long hours, if needed.
• Ability to travel for remote business requirements within Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.
• Ability to drill predetermined paths to exit points.
• Ability to pothole.
• Ability to assist with hand holes.
• Ability to conduct post-job quality checks.
• Strong knowledge of underground utilities.
• Knowledge of the telecommunications industry and construction practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 10 certification.
• OSHA 30 certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and handle materials for extended periods.
• Work performed outdoors, in all weather conditions, and in standard and high-risk construction areas.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
