Responsibilities
- Operate specialized equipment such as Backhoe, Crew Truck, Excavator, and Prentice Truck in support of inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track.
- Perform preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment.
- Maintain proper equipment appearance and cleanliness.
- May perform labor duties as needed.
- Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process.
- Ensures working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require.
- Follows DOT regulations; ensures proper permits and driving regulations are followed.
Requirements
- Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge.
- CDL-B License and demonstrated performance operating CDL-B required vehicles.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures.
- Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Able to perform physical strenuous work.
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs.
- Requires occasional use of 30lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50lbs of force.
- Requires occasional use of 10lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbs of force.
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner.
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary.
Job Dimensions
- Interfaces with all levels of employees and management.
- Performs duties under general supervision with limited discretion.
- Does not directly supervise employees.
