CDL-B / Operator - Lexington, KY

Responsibilities

• Operate specialized equipment such as Backhoe, Crew Truck, Excavator, and Prentice Truck in support of inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track.
• Perform preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment.
• Maintain proper equipment appearance and cleanliness.
• May perform labor duties as needed.
• Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process.
• Ensures working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require.
• Follows DOT regulations; ensures proper permits and driving regulations are followed.

Requirements

• Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge.
• CDL-B License and demonstrated performance operating CDL-B required vehicles.
• Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures.
• Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Able to perform physical strenuous work.
• Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs.
• Requires occasional use of 30lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50lbs of force.
• Requires occasional use of 10lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbs of force.
• Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner.
• Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary.

Job Dimensions

• Interfaces with all levels of employees and management.
• Performs duties under general supervision with limited discretion.
• Does not directly supervise employees.
