About the role

Food and food service delivery drivers fulfill a critical role in the country’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers not only ensure customers’ products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in good condition, but they are also the face of our company—building lasting relationships with customers.

The CDL-A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight and drive-and-drop routes to deliver and/or unload food and food-related products to customers safely, timely, and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and interact with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring questions are answered accurately and timely.
  • Function as a team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duty to best serve the company.
  • Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip), including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations; inspect equipment to ensure it meets company safety standards and report any issues or repairs needed.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines; immediately report all safety hazards.
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; perform count checks and verify customer invoices.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and legibly.
  • Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as needed.
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route schedules.
  • Unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas; perform damage control checks, scan items, and contact supervisor about removing orders as per company policy.
  • Verify delivery of items with the customer and obtain proper signatures; collect money (cash or checks) where required.
  • Load customer returns onto the trailer and secure trailer doors; ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns, bringing them to driver check-in and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Unload all equipment and materials, and remove trash from trailers as required.
  • Complete daily records of hours of service and enter logs in accordance with federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clean as required.
  • At the end of the shift, secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • 6+ months of commercial driving experience.
  • Valid CDL-A.
  • Must be 21+ years of age.
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
  • Pass road test.
  • Attain or have a valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure a new one.
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment (e.g., two-wheeler, lift gate) to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight (10–90 pounds) throughout the shift.

Pay

First-year drivers can earn up to $85,000+ per year after training. Sign-on bonus: $7,500 after completion of training (eligibility restrictions apply).
