About the role
This is an entry-level driver training role. The Driver Trainee learns to drive a tractor-trailer or straight truck intrastate and/or interstate on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and/or overnight routes to deliver and unload food and food-related products to customers. All routes must be completed safely in accordance with Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The role involves professional interaction with customers, vendors, and coworkers, and requires teamwork to support America’s food distribution system.
Responsibilities
- Attend and successfully complete PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program.
- Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries; follow all instructions and directions provided.
- Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations and company safety standards; report safety issues or needed repairs.
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines; immediately report safety hazards.
- Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; perform count checks and verify customer invoices.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and legibly.
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route schedules; unload products and transport items into designated customer storage areas.
- Perform damage control checks, scan items, and contact supervisor about removing orders as per company policy.
- Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures; collect money (cash or checks) where required.
- Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors; ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked/secured at all times.
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns; complete necessary paperwork.
- Unload equipment/materials and remove trash from trailers; maintain cleanliness of tractor, loading dock, and trailers.
- Complete daily record of hours of service and enter logs in accordance with federal, state, and company requirements.
- Secure all equipment and complete end-of-shift paperwork.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or state-approved equivalent.
- 6+ months of commercial driving experience.
- Valid CDL A.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
- Pass post-offer drug test and road test.
- Valid/current DOT Health Card.
- Able to hand-lift and use equipment (e.g., two-wheeler, lift gate) to move/stack product cases/freight (60–90 pounds) throughout shift.
Pay
$60,000 to $65,000 annually, paid bi-weekly.
Schedule
Monday–Friday; dispatch between 2 am and 5 am.
