CDL-A Delivery Driver

About the Role

Food and food service delivery drivers fulfill a critical role in the country’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers not only make sure the customers’ products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in good condition, but they are the face of our company – building lasting relationships with our customers! The CDL‑A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor‑trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over‑the‑road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver and/or unload food and food‑related products safely, timely, and in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Responsibilities

• Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors, and co‑workers professionally, ensuring questions are answered accurately and promptly.
• Functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company.
• Performs all required safety checks (pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer per DOT regulations; reports safety issues or repairs needed.
• Follows all DOT regulations and company safe‑driving guidelines; immediately reports safety hazards.
• Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; conducts count checks of items and verifies customer invoices.
• Completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
• Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches pre‑loaded trailer as needed.
• Drives to and delivers customer orders according to the predetermined route schedule.
• Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas.
• Performs damage control checks, scans items, and contacts supervisor about removing orders per company policy.
• Verifies delivery of items with the customer and obtains proper signatures.
• Collects money (cash or checks) where required.
• Loads customer returns onto the trailer and secures trailer doors.
• Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured.
• Unloads damaged goods and customer returns, completes necessary paperwork, and brings items to driver check‑in.
• Unloads all equipment, materials, and removes trash from trailers as required.
• Completes daily record of hours of service and enters logs in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
• Performs general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clear and clean.
• At shift end, secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• 6+ months of commercial driving experience.
• Valid CDL‑A; must be 21+ years of age.
• Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable.
• Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
• Pass post‑offer drug test and criminal background check.
• Pass road test.
• Current DOT Health Card or ability to obtain one.
• Ability to hand‑lift and utilize two‑wheeler, lift gate, or other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight (generally 10‑35 lb, up to 60‑90 lb depending on location).

Pay

Average Annual Salary: $90,000 – $95,000

Schedule

Mandatory work days: Monday, Friday, and Saturday. Days off may be Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Dispatch hours are between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM.
