About the role

The opportunity is available in the Office of Policy and the Office of Science in the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice (DEHSP) within the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

Research Project

You will engage in a mentored learning experience focused on applied environmental health science and public health practice. You will gain exposure to cross-cutting environmental health topics such as asthma, lead exposure, and safe water while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and interacting with internal and external partners.

Learning Objectives

• Gain experience preparing talking points, presentations, and communication materials for scientific discussions, speaking engagements, and program-related activities.
• Build knowledge of environmental health topics through participation in meetings, collaborative discussions, and engagement with division leadership and partner organizations.
• Develop organizational and communication skills through tracking meeting outcomes, scientific priorities, program updates, and cross-cutting environmental health activities.
• Enhance collaboration skills through engagement with multidisciplinary teams, partner organizations, and environmental health initiatives.
• Learn how scientific and public health information is communicated to diverse audiences and stakeholders.
• Gain exposure to national, state, and emerging environmental health policy and legislative topics relevant to public health practice and research.

Qualifications

• The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a master's degree in the relevant fields (Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Health, or related field).
• Degree must have been received within the past five years, or be currently pursuing.
• Preferred skills include excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, ability to conceptualize complex problems, and strong research and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of policy processes is preferred.
