Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in maintaining the Cedar City Regional Airport.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains runway and taxiway lighting, airport navigation aids, and signage. Changes bulbs and transformers and repairs fixtures, wiring, and other electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, replaces, and adjusts settings on printed circuit boards.
  • Responds to emergency situations to assist the Airport Manager in rescue and recovery operations and to re-establish the airfield and runway back to operational status.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations (FARs) and advisory circulars (ACs) regarding safety, operations, and maintenance of the airfield.
  • Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of all public buildings and grounds at the airport, including pavement areas, airport terminal building, and other City-owned facilities.
  • Keeps airport systems free and clear of obstructions per FAA regulations.
  • Maintains Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) and Runway End Identifier Light (REIL) systems. Changes bulbs and electronic components as required. Troubleshoots operational problems and calibrates/realigns systems.
  • Maintains obstruction lighting, windsocks, and rotating beacon for proper operation.
  • Performs daily/weekly airport inspections in accordance with FAA Part 139 regulations.
  • Operates a variety of equipment including mowers, tractors, spraying equipment, box scrapers, etc., to maintain airport grounds.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, dump trucks, and snow removal equipment.
  • Performs snow and ice removal from runways, taxiways, and aprons.
  • Performs groundskeeper functions for airport and terminal building, including repairing sprinkler systems and maintaining landscaping areas.
  • Performs general maintenance on the terminal building, including troubleshooting systems, plumbing, carpentry, electrical repairs, and HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs high voltage electrical circuits.
  • Performs Foreign Object Debris (FOD) removal.
  • Conducts wildlife hazard management practices.
  • Conducts airport security patrols.
  • Repairs perimeter fences, including troubleshooting and repairs to electronic gate systems.
  • Responds to airport emergencies when required.
  • Prepares and ensures publication of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) that are accurate and compliant with FAA guidance.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, and safety precautions necessary to maintain airport systems.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and building maintenance to repair and maintain the terminal building.
  • Knowledge of general landscaping and grounds maintenance.
  • Thorough knowledge of operating procedures required around aircraft and on airports.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools required to maintain airport/terminal building systems.
  • Ability to operate medium-sized power-driven equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral directions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

  • Five (5) years of experience (preferred) in aviation-related activities, including airport maintenance and snow removal, airport operations, or as an industrial mechanic or maintenance technician.

Special Requirements

  • Completion of firearms training.
  • Experience with firearms used for wildlife management.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Utah driver's license.
  • Required to be on-call/standby for snow removal or other designated emergencies with a 20-minute on-site response time.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal history background check as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands: Frequently bends, stoops, or crouches; may sit or stand for long periods; occasionally moves up to 50 pounds. Moderate exposure to hazards associated with confined spaces, high voltages, heat, cold, noise, and other elements associated with an airport environment.
  • Work Environment: Generally comfortable working conditions with moderate noise levels. Occasional exposure to increased noise, stressful situations, fieldwork, and weather conditions. Evening and weekend work required.
