About the role

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Chemical Dependency Technician (CD Tech) assists clients from admission through discharge, providing support throughout the extended substance and mental health treatment process. CD Techs supervise and manage client behavior, help manage crisis situations, and assist on-duty counselors in direct support of program goals. The role requires self-confidence, professionalism, and the ability to exercise discretion while adhering to program schedules and rules. CD Techs must respond professionally to clients who may be under the influence or struggling with mental health symptoms and handle medical emergencies while maintaining a positive image.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients through the treatment process from admission to discharge.
  • Supervise and manage client behavior, including crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Support on-duty counselors in achieving program goals and objectives.
  • Respond professionally to clients under the influence of substances or experiencing mental health symptoms.
  • Handle medical emergencies while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with state, federal, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Document services in writing and enter information into various systems.

Requirements

  • Age 18 or older.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification and Medication Administration certificate (for Residential only) obtained within 30 days of starting work.
  • Able to pass a Minnesota DHS background study.
  • Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficient in understanding, following instructions, and communicating effectively in English.
  • Able to document services in writing formatted in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in an addiction treatment facility or working in substance use disorder and/or mental health field.
  • Competent computer skills for entering information into various systems.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Daily use of general office and/or residential facility equipment.
  • Lifting (up to 25 pounds), minimal reaching, bending, and stooping.
  • Ability to navigate program and office environments, including ascending/descending steps and passing through doorways.

Pay

$19 - $21 per hour, with an additional $2 per hour for any hours worked between 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM.

Schedule

Part-time, with availability required on both weekdays and weekends.
