Apprentices will begin by learning core construction skills under the supervision of a journeyman, providing a foundation of safety and productivity across all industry sectors.
Responsibilities
- Exhibit enthusiasm to learn and build knowledge
- Attend formal training and complete on-the-job training
- Complete all homework and required evaluations to meet apprenticeship requirements
- Keep a log of on-the-job training activities
- Build professional relationships with colleagues and clients
- Observe and promote health and safety procedures
- Comply with all company and safety policies and procedures
- Attend onsite training to understand new tools, equipment, and work procedures
- Perform general tasks involving physical labor, including operating hand and power tools (e.g., air hammers, cement mixers, surveying equipment)
- Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble and debris
- Adhere to business standards, rules, and legal regulations
- Perform tasks as directed by Journeyman/Supervisor
- Assist other craft workers as needed
- Meet hard deadlines and work to strict schedules
- Solve problems and think critically to resolve issues
- Follow instructions clearly and work well as part of a team
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- 0 to 4,000 on-the-job training hours
- Experience using basic power tools preferred
- Ability to travel and work away from home for the entire duration of the apprenticeship program
- Written and verbal communication skills
Skills
- Take personal responsibility for health and safety, working toward the company’s Zero Injury principles
- Ability to perform tasks as directed by Journeyman
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Typical construction site environment
- Requires working in cramped workspaces and awkward positions
- Exposure to extreme temperatures (above 90°F or below 32°F) and inclement weather (dust, wind, snow, rain)
- Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions
- Exposure to distracting or uncomfortable sounds and noise levels
- Work around hazardous equipment
