About the role
The Resident Care Assistant assists residents who may be cognitively, functionally, physically, and/or socially impaired and who may require 24-hour oversight. The role of the Caregiver is to assist residents with those activities of daily living that may be temporarily or permanently unable to perform, fostering at all times resident independence, dignity and freedom of choice.
Responsibilities
- Provides required/requested assistance with dressing/undressing, bathing, personal hygiene, mobility devices, and care of ADL devices
- Provides required/requested assistance with use of telephone, weekly housekeeping, laundry, and escorting resident to/from meals and activities
- Provides assistance with administration of medications, including monitoring of medication supplies and documentation
- Observes and reports changes in residents' physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to nurse on duty or designee
- Assists in tasks related to resident dining and participates in and supports the resident-centered social activity program
- Responds to and acts as directed in emergency or disaster situations
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- CBRF Certifications (Med Administration, First Aide & Choking, Fire & Safety)
- Must be able to think, act, and intervene independently both in routine and emergency situations
- Ability to relate to residents, guests and peers in a courteous and diplomatic manner under all circumstances
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential function of this job. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and some mechanical equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of patient conditions and elements. The noise level is moderate to quiet. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day.
