CBI Forensic Scientist III (Firearms Examiner) - Statewide

About the role

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation Forensic Services (CBIFS) is seeking a Forensic Scientist III to join our team. This position is responsible for the preservation, analysis, and interpretation of physical evidence collected in criminal cases for federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the integrity of evidence by maintaining the chain of custody and security of the evidence at all times.
• Utilizes equipment and instrumentation properly and efficiently, and performs quality checks in a timely and accurate manner.
• Maintains and ensures the quality of chemicals, reagents, solvents, and standards used in analysis.
• Conducts thorough technical reviews of casework in a timely manner.
• Applies established theory, principles, professional standards, and precedents to complete complex cases.
• Adheres to approved procedures for the discipline/sub-discipline and obtains deviation approvals when necessary.
• Documents and reports uncertainty of measurement and sampling plans for the discipline/sub-discipline.
• Complies with technical requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and adheres to CBIFS policies and procedures.
• Serves as a lead trainer and assists or participates in audits.
• Provides expert witness testimony or serves in an advisory capacity within qualified disciplines/sub-disciplines.
• Hones customer service abilities and acts as the initial liaison with law enforcement partners.

Requirements

Must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least 3 years of experience in forensic science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Pay

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $7,881 - $9,078.43/month; $94,572 - $108,941.16/year. The full salary range is $7,881 - $11,035/month; $94,572 - $132,420/year.

Schedule

This position is 100% in-person, with typical work hours of 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
