Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems to ensure aircraft remains in safe operating condition.
• Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
• Replace or repair worn or damaged components such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
• Remove engine from aircraft using hoist or forklift, disassemble and inspect parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, repair or replace defective engine parts, and reassemble and install engine in aircraft.
• Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
• Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections.
• Perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
• Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition or operation.
• Interpret technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturers’ manuals to solve moderate to complex problems.
• Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft and verify work was performed satisfactorily.
• Service engines and airframe components at line station, making repairs short of overhaul to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
• Specialize in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, or specialize in engine repair.
• Make entries in aircraft logs and records as required.
• Prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
• Comply with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series applicable to aircraft maintenance and ALSS.
• Utilize technical publications, NAMP, and NALCOMIS aircraft maintenance applications.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of specialized courses in aircraft structural repair.
• Four years of actual and recent experience in the repair, modification, maintenance, and overhaul of the C-130 aircraft.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level clearance.
• Valid US state driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain a Government flight line driver’s license.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to read and interpret data.

Skills

• Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
• Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and shears.
• Working knowledge of technical publications and corrosion control techniques.
• Working knowledge of base, federal, and company procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
• Working knowledge of aircraft sub-systems, including maintenance parameters, systems operation, limitations, and technical orders.
• Ability to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment

• May work in aircraft maintenance hangar or outside in a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
• May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft, fumes or airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
• Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods.
• Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
• Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee, and reach above/below shoulders.
• May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects, and hand tools.
• Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings, and other small scales.
• Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
• Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
• May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.

Pay

Maryland Salary Range: USD $47.67/HR. Additional compensation elements include:

• Union Flex Benefit Credit: USD $3.00/HR
• Opt-Out Health Credit (must have your own coverage): USD $3.15/HR
• Overtime Premium Pay
• Differential Pay
• Relocation reimbursement (must qualify)

Provided salary range minimum and maximum values correspond to variances between regional/geographic locations across the United States.
