CBA - TPS - Aircraft Mechanic(ALSS) - NTWL

About the Role

Performs organization-level Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS) maintenance on aircraft assigned to Patuxent River, MD, under the NTWL (Naval Test Wing Atlantic) Program.

Responsibilities

• Utilize maintenance manuals, requirement cards, schematics, diagrams, technical directives, and operational procedures for maintenance and servicing.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, remove, and replace components on aircraft-mounted and aircrew ALSS, including survival equipment, cabin environmental systems, equipment cooling, and liquid/gaseous oxygen systems.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair survival equipment, flight gear, protective clothing, and sewing machines.
• Perform duties in hazardous areas, such as oxygen systems and engine fire extinguishing systems, including cartridge-actuated device removal/replacement.
• Ensure compliance with government safety standards and flight line operations/procedures.
• Maintain ALSS rotatable pool, aircrew equipment files, and aircraft ALSS history records in required logs.
• Collaborate with other personnel to resolve ALSS system issues.
• Direct and monitor other technicians on assigned tasks, instruct lower-level employees, and assist other shops/skills as needed.
• Perform duties as a Collateral Duty Inspector and any tasks within the classification of lower-rated technical personnel.
• Comply with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series, NAMP, and NALCOMIS aircraft maintenance applications.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of specialized courses in aircraft ALSS.
• Two to four years of recent experience in the type of aircraft being serviced (four years preferred).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret clearance.
• Valid U.S. state driver’s license and ability to obtain a Government flight line driver’s license.
• Working knowledge of technical publications, safety rules, and military/company forms.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to interpret data, schematics, blueprints, and diagrams.

Skills

• Knowledge of aviation life support equipment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting military publications, drawings, and schematics.
• Ability to read and interpret data, micrometer readings, and small-scale measurements.
• Color vision and depth perception for identifying small objects and tools.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, climb, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Dexterity to handle objects, tools, and operate machinery (e.g., forklifts, APUs, ground support equipment).
• Ability to work in extreme noise, fumes, and electrical shock hazard environments.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment

• Work in aircraft maintenance hangars or outdoors, potentially in extreme weather or rudimentary infrastructure.
• Exposure to turbine/jet engine noise, fumes, airborne particles, and moving mechanical parts.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, crouch, crawl, and reach above/below shoulders for extended periods.
• May require operating power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, or ground support equipment.

Pay

Maryland Salary Range: USD $47.67/hour.

• Union Flex Benefit Credit: USD $3.00/hour.
• Opt-Out Health Credit (for those with external coverage): USD $3.15/hour.
