Cattle Procurement Associate - Wichita, KS

About the Role

As a Cattle Procurement Associate, you will be trained in multiple areas to develop the knowledge and skills vital for a procurement leadership role. After training, you will lead a territory, purchasing grain-fed cattle for Cargill’s harvest facilities. This role offers exposure to meat processing production, including food safety, USDA regulations, accounting, and information technologies. You will also receive training in people leadership, OSHA requirements, ergonomics, safety, HACCP, good manufacturing practices, coaching, and human resources. The program includes an in-depth orientation to all facets of plant operations, preparing you for a role aligned with business needs.

Responsibilities

• Communicate timely with producers and employees involved in trading, transporting, harvesting, and payment of cattle.
• Maintain relationships with producers in your assigned territory.
• Accurately evaluate cattle quality and enter estimates into the procurement system.
• Collect key industry certifications and documentation from producers, verifying accuracy in the procurement system.
• Develop knowledge of meat processing production, including process flow, yields, variances, and USDA regulations.
• Schedule daily production, maintain live inventory, and purchase grain-fed cattle from producers.

Qualifications

• Right to work in the U.S. not based solely on a student visa or third-party sponsorship.
• Pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field (graduation dates between December 2026 and August 2027).
• Willing and able to relocate anywhere in the U.S. for an assigned territory.
• Basic understanding of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and live cattle trading activities.
• Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Willingness to work with livestock producers.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Ability to work effectively in diverse teams and individually.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale).
• Proficiency in both English and Spanish.

Pay

The expected salary for this position is $66,000. The disclosed salary has not been adjusted for geographic differentials.

Schedule and Environment

• Initial location: Wichita, KS; territory assignment anywhere in the U.S. as you progress in the role.
• Work environment: Plant and office setting.
• Travel: Approximately 25% of the time.
• Physical demands: Moderate exertion, including bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, and occasional lifting of objects over 50 pounds (frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds). Exposure to heat, cold, dust, and other environmental conditions.
