About the role
This position is responsible and accountable for the operational oversight of assigned areas, including Cardiac Catheterization, Echocardiography, Cardiac Stress, and Electrocardiography, if applicable. The manager works closely with physician staff, administration, service line leaders, and front-line team members to meet organizational goals for quality, safety, economics, and patient satisfaction. This role will be a liaison between physicians, internal departments, and administration to maintain efficiency while providing excellent patient care.
Responsibilities
- Maintains professional status and demonstrates behavior consistent with the Heart and Vascular Institute service line and WVUM’s Mission.
- Develops cooperative relationships and acts as liaison between the Cath Lab and other departments, internal and external, when working on existing or new cardiac imaging initiatives.
- Participates in recruitment and retention activities.
- Interviews, hires, orients, trains, coaches, and disciplines staff.
- Conducts performance evaluations, completes competencies, and prepares staff schedules and payroll in a timely manner.
- Engages in effective communication, promotes teamwork, and a positive work environment.
- Encourages professional development of staff members, acting as an effective resource and role model providing instruction as warranted.
- Attends continuing educations programs to gain continuous understanding of cardiac imaging services and to develop strategic plans for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Collaborates to develop, expand, and implement new procedures, techniques, equipment, and protocols in cardiovascular services.
- Maintains current knowledge of Cath Lab operations, providing a safe environment from radiation to patients and personnel.
- Assumes responsibility for the patient focused performance improvement process engaging staff participation in multidisciplinary activities conducted for the purpose of improving the quality and reducing the cost of care.
- Develops and monitors appropriate operational performance measures.
- Reviews outcomes and improves operational systems to ensure continued improvement.
- Compiles and analyzes data to support recommendations for procedural and operational change.
- Responsible to resolve patient issues through approved incident and complaint tracking processes.
- Participates in budget preparation and monitoring operational expense ensuring an effective balance between resource allocations and volume demands.
- Gathers and trends statistical data to identify, support and justify present and future staffing and equipment needs.
- Interacts with and oversees activities of equipment and medical device vendors.
- Attends meeting as required and participates on committees.
- Ensures accurate coding and reimbursement practices.
- Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment and attends safety education session.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- OR Required Must possess current Radiological Technologist certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) AND License as required by state where services will be provided: WV: Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board PA: No state licensure required.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire
- Experience One (1) year of leadership experience
- Three (3) years of experience in Invasive Cardiovascular
- To be completed as established by department: (Administered at Department level)
- Documented basic arrhythmia education
Preferred qualifications
- Certification from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses for RN candidates
- Certification in Cardiac Interventions (CI), Vascular Interventions (VI), or Cardiovascular Interventions (CV) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) for RT(R) candidates
- Bachelor-level degree in Nursing or Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology) or higher
