About the Role
This position supports the Land’s End Resort, a 117-room hotel in Homer, AK, by coordinating catering activities and events with daily client and customer contact.
Responsibilities
- Ensure dining activities and services are provided in a high quality, consistent, and cost-effective manner.
- Plan or participate in planning menus, preparing and apportioning foods, and utilizing food surpluses and leftovers.
- Communicate with and lead events staff within the organization.
- Coordinate all aspects of catering activities and events.
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and preferences.
- Measure the performance of assigned events and activities.
- Oversee event setup, execution, and breakdown.
- Provide exceptional guest service throughout the event.
- Prepare and serve food and refreshments at social affairs.
- Purchase and/or requisition kitchen supplies, catering wares, and equipment.
- Establish and implement an organized system of supervision and general operating procedures.
- Demonstrate strong understanding of event management software and interpret Event Forms and Pull Sheets.
- Direct and coordinate the promotion of new services.
- Track financial data, reports, forecasts, and expenditures to achieve optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximize profits.
- Support an active safety program.
- Facilitate the employment of NANA shareholders.
- Continuously seek to improve the quality of assigned events activities.
- Define and ensure understanding of responsibilities, authorities, and accountability for all assigned employees.
- Demonstrate professional skills in communication, change management, employee development, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Perform other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of catering & events coordinating experience.
- Alaska Food Workers Card or ServSafe Certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of event management software.
- Experience with sales reports and POS (Point of Sale) transactions.
- Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English.
- Valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under the NMS vehicle insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hotel/hospitality catering & events planning experience.
- Full beverage and bar experience.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
This role operates in a commercial kitchen within a hotel setting, primarily indoors in an environmentally controlled space with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly required to talk, hear, see, taste, and smell.
- No travel required.
