About the role

The Captain position is vital to achieving excellent guest service and executing catering events. The Captain leads Servers and Bussers, pulls equipment for event setup, transports materials and food to the event, sets up the event, serves guests, cleans up, and returns equipment to the catering department. This is a union position under Unite Here 11.

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, new hires start at 80% of the negotiated pay rate. After 20 shifts, the rate increases to 90%, and after 40 shifts (20 at 80%, 20 at 90%), the employee reaches 100% of the negotiated rate.

Responsibilities

  • Leads catering team on all catering functions
  • Prepares banquet rooms for functions
  • Serves meals and beverages in accordance with catering protocol and banquet sheets
  • Accurately sets tables for special functions
  • Loads/unloads event equipment into catering vehicles, following all safety procedures in compliance with DOT regulations
  • Cleans all function areas upon completion
  • Performs opening and closing side work as needed
  • Maintains a professional appearance
  • Keeps storage rooms and supplies orderly
  • Maintains equipment and catering supplies
  • Performs all job duties safely and efficiently
  • Follows all company safety policies and procedures
  • Understands and follows directions from the Manager/Director
  • Lifts up to 50 lb and frequently lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries up to 30 lb
  • Walks or stands for extended periods, up to 6 hours
  • Performs repetitive motions
  • Works with chemicals, heated equipment, steam, and other risk conditions
  • Moves in and out of catering vehicles and transports event equipment and food safely
  • Cross-trains and works in other dining locations as needed
  • May supervise staff and sanitation of facilities
  • Responsible for opening/closing the building, addressing employee matters, and ensuring appropriate staffing

Requirements

  • 1-year supervisory experience
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb and frequently lift, push, pull, or carry up to 30 lb
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods, up to 6 hours
  • Flexible schedule to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Well-groomed and professional attire (follows Aramark uniform and grooming standards)

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to carry at least 4 meals on a tray at any given time
  • Excellent guest service skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Enjoys working in a lively environment
  • TIPS/TEAM certified

Pay

The starting hourly rate for this position is $16.90 (80% of the negotiated pay rate). After 20 shifts, the rate increases to 90%, and after 40 shifts, it reaches 100% of the negotiated rate. Administrative Fee Share split is available, but setup days are paid at a flat rate of $21.00.

Schedule

This role operates in an events-based setting, with schedules and hours varying. Most employees work 3 or 4 events per year. Availability is submitted and considered when scheduling.
