CATERINA MCEVOY IS BIRNAM ARTS' NEW ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

About the role

Caterina McEvoy is Birnam Arts' New Artist in Residence, funded by Creative Scotland.

Responsibilities

• Create new work responding to the River Tay and its surrounding landscape, collaborating with ceramic artist Susie Johnston.
• Weave together environmental field recordings, electronic textures, and live instrumental performance to explore the textures, rhythms, and ecological presence of the river.
• Reflect on how environments are experienced, remembered, and shared through both sonic and visual forms.

Qualifications

• Composer, sound artist, musician, and sound designer working between Yorkshire and Scotland.
• Collaborates with filmmakers, writers, dancers, and visual artists to develop interdisciplinary projects.
• Works across sound, performance, and visual art contexts.
• Has exhibited internationally, including at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space and venues in Venice.
• Currently working as sound designer on the theatre production Becoming Simone.

Skills

• Collaborative practice with writers, filmmakers, dancers, and visual artists.
• Creation of immersive sonic environments using environmental field recordings, electronic textures, and live instrumental performance.
• Experience in creating new work that responds to the River Tay and its surrounding landscape.
• Ability to reflect on how environments are experienced, remembered, and shared through both sonic and visual forms.
