About the Role
The procurement Category Manager for Healthcare Operations is responsible for developing and executing category strategies for healthcare operations and core service vendors that directly impact medical cost, operational performance, and member experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute category strategies for healthcare operations and core service vendors.
- Lead end to end sourcing, negotiations, contract execution (ranging from $1M-$5M+).
- Commercial structuring, benchmarking, and negotiation for healthcare operations (e.g., Claims, Enrollment, Customer Service, Care Management, Clinical Services, BPaaS, Operational IT tools) vendors.
- Partner closely with business leadership to drive strategic value, enhance performance, support transformation initiatives, and ensure compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Seven years of progressive experience in procurement, category management, or vendor management.
- Experience negotiating mid-to-large operational service agreements.
- Experience with IT ecosystems, including cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), workflow tools (ServiceNow), managed service vendors (i.e., claims/process outsourcing environments), care management systems and payor platforms, and member portals and digital engagement systems.
- Experience supporting IT service lifecycle, including renewals, vendor transitions, and system implementations.
- Strong understanding of core healthcare operations domains such as claims, enrollment, member services, care management, call center, clinical vendors, etc.
- Strong familiarity with operational sourcing, procurement best practices, and vendor selection processes.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, commercial negotiation, and financial modeling capabilities tailored for operations environments.
- Familiarity with IT service management or ticketing tools and basic understanding of how IT workflow systems operate.
- Ability to analyze data exports from IT vendors, cloud platforms, licensing portals, or SaaS management tools.
- Strong understanding of legal and commercial contract terms.
- Demonstrate experience in healthcare operations or healthcare payor environment.
- Demonstrated ability to drive measurable savings and commercial outcomes.
- Ability to interpret complex requirements, operational dependencies, and contract cost structures.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements, architecture dependencies, and IT cost structures.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, including the ability to build and interpret Excel models for healthcare operations spend, licensing, and forecasting.
- Familiarity with service management or ticketing tools and basic understanding of how procurement workflow systems operate.
- Familiarity with contract management or procurement workflow tools.
- Ability to analyze data exports from vendor systems or procurement platforms.
