Category Manager: Hardware

Marketing$109k–$121k/yrFull-time

About the role

Own the Category Strategy (Create Our Future)
Build and execute a 1-to-3-year Hardware and Digital Workplace category strategy that keeps McKesson ahead of the market, not chasing it.
Scan the landscape relentlessly: key players, disruptors, emerging pricing models, and where the technology is heading before your stakeholders even know to ask.
Research industry trends and translate market intelligence into annual Category Strategy plans that examine supplier offerings, current and future needs, and align with IT leadership.
Work with internal stakeholders on current and future IT objectives, sparking big-picture thinking and connecting sourcing to enterprise outcomes.
Negotiate Deals That Move the Needle (Make Bold Moves)
Lead complex, high-value negotiations for hardware, software, and services — often bundled into holistic solutions that don’t fit neatly into any one category.
Manage major suppliers, resellers, and systems integrators with the confidence of someone who knows the market cold.
Create RFIs, RFPs, and sourcing strategies that generate real leverage, not just process theater.
Generate savings through contract negotiations, demand management, supplier consolidation, technology transformation, and innovation.
Use data and technology to drive clarity in uncertainty — you don’t wait for perfect information to take the next step.
Move Fast and Bring People With You (Move at the Pace of Possibility)
Convert business needs into actionable sourcing events quickly, without sacrificing quality or leaving stakeholders behind.
Prioritize ruthlessly across multiple concurrent IT sourcing projects — you know what matters most and protect that time.
Remove friction. If a process is slowing things down unnecessarily, you fix it.
Provide regular, crisp project status updates so stakeholders are never surprised and always informed.
Champion the adoption of AI tools and agents, automation, and emerging technologies to enhance productivity, decision-making, and business outcomes. Deliver Results That Last (Deliver Results That Matter)
Deliver year-over-year financial improvements through rate reductions, asset and demand management, process optimization, and supplier innovation.
Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements at all times.
Develop, maintain, and enforce Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with key suppliers.
Serve as the escalation point for commercial and contractual supplier issues.
Conduct yourself and the category with the highest ethical standards — decisions are always objective and fact-based.
Be the Partner Your Stakeholders Didn’t Know They Needed (Lead with Purpose and Humility)
Build trusted relationships with Business Units, IT leaders, Legal, Finance, Compliance, Risk, and Insurance — the people whose support makes great sourcing possible.
Contribute to a Supplier Relationship Management program that turns transactional vendors into strategic partners.
Work across shared services groups on contract development, including Legal, Privacy, Risk Management, and Information Security.
Seek varied perspectives and model the kind of partnership that makes stakeholders want to bring you in early.
Raise the Bar Around You (Build Teams of Tomorrow)
Share what you know — the best sourcing professionals make the people around them sharper.
Contribute to a culture of continuous learning by sharing market insights, emerging trends, and best practices across the team.
Mentor and support colleagues across the Sourcing & Procurement function, helping build future-ready skills.
