Category Manager

About the role

The Category Manager drives category performance through detailed analysis of product assortment, pricing change analysis (including historical changes and future forecasting), vendor proposals, and agreements. The position focuses on optimizing category activities such as new product review, assortment review, vendor negotiations, and pricing work.

Responsibilities

• Manage the analysis, negotiation, and ongoing management of IMA/Shamrock RFPs.
• Review vendor proposals and negotiate agreements to support category success.
• Provide detailed analysis of assigned category performance, focusing on product assortment, pricing (branch cost), promotions, and price changes.
• Maintain reports to track performance and identify opportunities against established metrics.
• Analyze and monitor category performance at Enterprise and Branch levels; recommend adjustments to strategies to drive sales growth and improved gross profit.
• Benchmark category performance with top industry competitors.
• Collaborate with Branches to tailor category management strategies and implement them.
• Review pricing in the category to identify issues and opportunities; approve and maintain the cost change template with suppliers.
• Identify gaps in the EB portfolio and monitor market trends to spot product development opportunities.
• Ensure Exclusive Brand products are prioritized in category strategy development and implementation.
• Monitor and negotiate with suppliers on selected program agreements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant experience in the Food industry.
• Four-year college degree in business or a related field preferred.
• Ability to operate successfully in a matrix environment and work effectively across multiple groups and levels.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to work in a team setting and drive results.
• Ability to support change management within the organization.
• Must possess, or rapidly develop, a strong knowledge of products within the assigned category.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Access is a plus.

Pay

Base salary starts at $100K with annual bonus potential, weighted on several factors.
