Basic Job Purpose/Function
Casual Van/Bus Drivers - Senior Services - White Salmon and Goldendale - Non-Exempt - Grade 34 Steps 1-3 $19.56 - $20.78/hr
Operational Duties
- Transports and assists senior citizens, disabled persons, and the general public to medical appointments, shopping, recreational trips, banks, and other destinations as needed.
- Operates van/bus for public fixed route transit service.
- Maintains and services vehicles.
- Assists in scheduling maintenance.
Essential Job Duties
- Operates a passenger van and bus in a safe, comfortable, legal and timely manner; transports passengers to medical appointments, shopping, recreational trips, banks, and other destinations.
- Affirms vehicle safety rules are followed such as use of safety belt, operation of emergency exits, and accident procedures.
- May operate a fixed route bus service from 7am to 7pm, Monday through Friday.
- Picks up passengers at location indicated by the Transportation Coordinator.
- Works with coordinator to devise efficient routes and scheduling to provide cost-effective services.
- Provides assistance to passengers embarking or disembarking the van; operates wheelchair lift.
- Provides assistance to home or destination and carries and loads groceries as needed.
- Refers passengers who appear to need a variety of additional assistance to appropriate agency staff.
- Collects donations from passengers and assures confidentiality of donations as per program requirements and agency policies.
- Complies with agency procedures, including performance of regular van maintenance activities; conducting pre-trip safety inspections, checking and filling fuel and oil; cleaning inside and outside of van; reporting the need for servicing and repairs as necessary.
- Maintains all required vehicle records including time charts, fuel usage, mileage counts, and van service records.
- Picks-up and delivers items such as oxygen tanks or packages as required.
- Maintains a polite and cheerful demeanor while transporting passengers.
- Refers to Information and Assistance Coordinator any non-transportation difficulties reported or exhibited by a senior citizen.
- Attends any required training.
- Performs other related duties as needed.
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques and related tools/equipment to accomplish the basic function of this position, including any safety and/or legal requirements.
- This may, but not necessarily, include specialized skills.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job.
- A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be a High school diploma or GED, and experience in operating commercial vehicles.
- Valid state/commercial driver's license with clean driving record.
- Must be able to drive in a variety of weather conditions and be able to drive in both rural and urban environments.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Designated safety sensitive, requiring random drug and alcohol testing.
