Cashier Teller II, (A264010-7), 204, Bridge System

About the Role

Receives and accounts for monies collected at all four international bridges by Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) accounts or operation revenues. Provides change for collectors, records deposits, and maintains paperwork.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and conducts cash-out for collectors, bill changers, and turnstiles.
• Prepares reports and deposits, balances change funds, and issues money to collectors.
• Reconciles spreadsheets and updates all ledgers.
• Conducts cash audits with internal and external auditors as needed.
• Operates and maintains equipment, trains new cashier tellers.
• Provides customer service and assists customers with questions or concerns.
• Processes new AVI accounts and maintains customer account information.
• Monitors supply inventory at each workstation.
• Drives a City vehicle for City business use.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers, applicable software programs, and hardware.
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
• Knowledge of City of Laredo and the Bridge System policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of US and Mexican currency systems.
• Skill in planning, organization, and time management.
• Skill in use of digital video auditing system (DVAS).
• Skill in customer service delivery.
• Skill in basic bookkeeping and math calculations.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to maintain good planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
• Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.
• Ability to perform strenuous work and routine work.
• Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
• Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
• Ability to comply with all City of Laredo's policies and procedures.
• Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of this position.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Primarily works in an office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant conditions or hazards, with occasional exposure to unpleasant conditions.
• Occasional outside work and exposure to street environments (near moving traffic).
• Frequent work in an office or similar indoor environment.
• Sedentary work involving sitting most of the time, with occasional walking and standing.
• Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
• Exposures may include:
  • Sometimes: individuals who are hostile or irate, moving mechanical parts, loud noises (85+ decibels).
  • Seldom: extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, confined spaces, vehicles, warehouse environments.
  • Never: individuals with known violent backgrounds, regional/national/international travel.
• Local travel required sometimes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
• Two (2) years' experience in customer service and cash handling in multiple currencies.
• Valid Texas Driver License (or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment if holding an out-of-state license).

Applicants with foreign education must submit a foreign credential evaluation from a professional agency that is a member of NACES or AICE, verifying U.S. equivalency of the degree.
