About the role

The Salvation Army is seeking a Cashier (Part-time) to join the ARC – Adult Rehabilitation Center team. This position assists store customers in selecting and purchasing items, operates and maintains a cash register, and performs various other duties to ensure the smooth operation of the store.

Responsibilities

• Assists store customers in selecting and purchasing items.
• Operates and maintains a cash register; collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts.
• Balances the cash register drawer and prints routine register printouts.
• Prepares and delivers bank deposits.
• Responds to customers' questions and assists customers who are donating items.
• Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of merchandise and displays.
• Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; secures merchandise and the cash register.
• Cleans display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows, mirrors, and helps maintain overall cleanliness of store.
• Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner.

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred and experience working in a retail store preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.
• Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in the English language.

Qualifications

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to operate a cash register.
• Ability to accurately and timely perform routine mathematical computations and count change.
• Ability to operate and answer the telephone.
• Generally limited physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, 75% to 100% of work time. May include carrying, pushing, pulling or moving objects (typically less than 50 lbs.) 25-50% of work time.

• Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.
• Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in the English language.
