Responsibilities
- Be visible and actively greet, engage and assist customers.
- Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
- Understand and adhere to the company's limits on cash shortages and/or overages.
- Work honestly and effectively to control loss.
- Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
- Follow established policies and procedures for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated.
- Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
- Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
Qualifications
- Customer service experience.
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
About the role
The role involves cashier/checker responsibilities, including greeting and assisting customers, processing transactions, adhering to company policies, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. The position requires a cooperative attitude, ability to manage conflict, honesty, and integrity, as well as the ability to work in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment. Previous experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk is preferred but not required.
