Responsibilities

Cashiers are usually the first face customers see when they enter the store, so first impressions are important. A welcoming and friendly greeting makes a difference to the customer.

• Scan items using a barcode scanner or manually enter item codes, ensuring no items in the bottom of the cart are missed and tagging oversized items with a paid label.
• Process payments, including cash, credit or debit cards, and checks; count change accurately and provide receipts to customers.
• Handle returns and exchanges according to store policies, with manager approval when required.
• Maintain a clean and organized register area, including the cash register, scanner, and bags.
• Resolve customer complaints quickly and courteously, or refer the customer to a supervisor if necessary.
• Assist with stocking as needed.
• Sweep and mop as needed.
