About This Position

The City of Phoenix Human Services Department (HSD) enhances the health, wellness, and quality of life for Phoenix residents by providing a comprehensive range of services to help people meet emergencies and reach their highest level of self-sufficiency. HSD offers a wide variety of programs for children, adults, and families at numerous locations throughout the city.

Responsibilities

  • Interview clients, conduct assessments to determine eligibility for federally funded programs, identify necessary assistance, and make referrals to appropriate service agencies.
  • Engage in frequent community-based outreach, requiring regular mobility to events and partner sites, while assisting clients with comprehensive benefit navigation and access.
  • Work with diverse low-income groups, other agencies, anti-poverty workers, and the general public.
  • Respond to emergencies and engage with the public to promote and deliver departmental resources - at times outdoors and in various weather conditions.
  • Support community events and promote causes that align with diverse groups.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in a social service programs.
  • Aceociate's degree in social work, sociology, social services, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
  • Skill in a second language may be called upon to utilize that skill in the routine performance of their duties.
  • Working irregular hours, weekends, and evenings.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office.
  • Two years of experience with the following: Collaborating with community agencies, providing crisis intervention services within a case management setting, providing social service information and referrals/resources, developing case plans in a case management setting, completing case note documentation, providing customer service to a diverse population, determining eligibility for social services within a federally funded program.
