Caseload Coverage Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (Houston-Temporary)

About the role

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) seeks to fill a Part-time/Full-time TEMPORARY Caseload Coverage Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (CCVRC) position. This position supports the mission of TWC to promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers opportunities for employers, individuals, and communities.

Responsibilities

• Aid eligible individuals with disabilities in preparing for, retaining, obtaining, and advancing in competitive, integrated employment.
• Assist students with disabilities in transitioning from high school to postsecondary education and employment.
• Develop and maintain relationships with community referral sources, businesses, employers, and schools.
• Analyze all necessary information to make accurate eligibility decisions (e.g., medical, psychological, school records, employment records).
• Help customers choose appropriate employment by analyzing information to determine strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, and interests, and match that information to the current job market.
• Work with customers to develop a plan of services aimed at achieving employment goals.
• Ensure timely and cost-effective service delivery and progress towards employment goals.
• Develop and implement processes leading to successful job placement.
• Apply best value purchasing practices and use available, comparable benefits and services to ensure efficient use of public funds.
• Mentor new VR counselors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
• Meet the Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD) educational requirements and be considered a Qualified Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in social work, rehabilitation, or a related field plus five years of experience in vocational rehabilitation services.
• Related work experience in case management, counseling, job placement, and general knowledge of disabilities.
