Case Manager Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) Crisis Care Counselor- Mobile

About the role

The Association for Individual Development (AID) is seeking a Crisis Care Counselor-Mobile Recovery Support Specialist to join their team. This position is ideal for someone with lived experience in mental health and substance use disorders who is committed to supporting clients in recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize lived experience to support clients in reducing mental health dysfunction, increasing community functioning, and achieving recovery goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, emotional support, and suicide risk assessment via phone through AID's 24/7 crisis line.
  • Manage and assess incoming Mobile Crisis referrals from 988, local police departments, and other community services via phone.
  • Provide in-person Mobile Crisis Response with a Crisis Counselor anywhere in Kendall and Southern Kane County when a mental health crisis cannot be de-escalated over the phone.
  • Collaborate with a team of service providers to ensure client needs are met and community stabilization is promoted.
  • Maintain documentation required for crisis intervention services provided on the phone and in the community.
  • Respond to calls from shift start to shift end, respond to dispatches, and provide Crisis Line Coverage when not providing mobile response.
  • Provide effective individual crisis counseling and crisis intervention assessments.
  • Consult with family members, case managers, previous and existing service providers, and other outside resources as appropriate.
  • Use intervention tactics to reduce symptomology.
  • Provide independent program coverage when scheduled or in emergency situations.
  • Complete clinical documentation appropriately to meet program funders and administrative rules.
  • Provide effective telephone counseling service through active and empathetic listening and motivational interviewing.
  • Complete required documentation on a timely basis.
  • Billing within the next 2 shifts, AND prior to program billing deadlines.
  • Complete MCRT Daily logs, Dispatch logs, 988 follow up, and ICAROL contact logs, before the end of the working shift.
  • Attend clinical supervision a minimum of once per month & as assigned.
  • Meet monthly minimum predetermined productivity standards.
  • Develop and implement crisis safety plans and resource follow-up in collaboration with the client, other providers, and other parties as identified by the client.
  • Maintain records of individuals served on the MCR-T in accordance with Rule 132, payers, and accreditation bodies.
  • Aid in conducting regular quality assurance of MCR-T records.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with agency and provider staff, family, and others in response to client’s identified needs, and client assistance/service needs.
  • Navigate Cx360, have a working knowledge of opening clients to programming and ensuring client profile is completed.
  • Navigate crisis line documentation service, working knowledge of submitting documentation, finding frequent callers, and submitting sunshine documentation.
  • Recognize emergency situations and take appropriate action. Contact Manager and Director per procedure.
  • Complete necessary paperwork correctly (incident reports, petitions, case notes).
  • Participate in training and development opportunities as assigned.
  • Promote awareness of mental health, both internally and externally.
  • Adhere to all Program 590 guidelines and expectations as outlined by the 590 Mobile Crisis Response Grant and IDPH Department of Mental Health.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Service field preferred. Bilingual-Spanish preferred.
  • License/certifications: CRSS (Certified Recovery Support Specialist) certification preferred, or certification requirements should be met within one year of hire, and certification obtained within 18 months (about 1 and a half years) and maintained throughout employment.
  • Experience: Some mental health experience preferred, individual must be in recovery from mental health illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorder.
  • Physical: Position requires ability to communicate in-person, telephone and in group settings. Requires frequent standing; walking, navigation of stairs on a regular basis, Ability to provide services in clients’ homes and in the community. Ability to drive and work overnights is required.
  • Equipment: Position operates in a professional office environment and off-site in various community settings. Role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets.
  • Additional Requirements: Flexibility to work evening/overnight/weekend/rotating holidays, Ability to work rotating on-call shifts. Cover non-scheduled shifts as needed, Reliable means of transportation to and from work, Maintain automobile liability insurance as defined by AID’s personnel policies, Maintain valid Illinois driver’s license, Drive self and clients in an agency or personal vehicle. Ability to work with diverse populations, demonstrating cultural competency and community awareness, May be required to work multiple locations.
  • Training: Complete Training as required within 30 days of hire including: First Aid, CPR, Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training, CEU’s, and other relevant training assigned by manager.
