About the role
Position Summary
Reports to the supervisor, case management.
Responsible for planning, coordinating, developing and implementing a professional individual and group counseling program for assigned inmates in compliance with MTC and customer directives.
Responsibilities
- Review detailed background file, conduct personal interviews and tests as necessary to analyze and recommend a program for each assigned inmate.
- Initiate and maintain individual personal social development (PSD) folder on each assigned inmate.
- Provide direct aid and counseling to inmates/detainees with personal needs or problems, i.e., sickness, injury, family problems and other related personal problems.
- Provide continuous educational, vocational, personal and social adjustment counseling on an individual and group basis.
- Recommend necessary program modifications throughout each assigned inmate’s stay.
- Recommend and provide continuous programs (educational, vocational, and cognitive) while making necessary recommendations throughout their sentence.
- Coverage of continuous interpretation and evaluation of progress in inmate’s specific development program.
- Maintain documentation and records.
- Recommend and conduct training sessions to develop greater proficiency among staff in areas of guidance and social adjustment.
- Recommend medical or psychiatric evaluation for emotional or psychological problems.
- Assist in the evaluation of facility services for inmates and recommend modifications for improvement.
- Rack good time credits as mandated by NMCD.
- Cook up victim notifications to coincide with inmates’ releases.
- Coordinate with the Adult Parole Board and the New Mexico probation and parole to arrange inmates' releases.
- Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
- Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in counseling or related field required and one (1) year related experience preferred.
- Nine (90) credits hours from an accredited college or university, in a related field, will be considered in lieu of an Associate’s degree.
- Four (4) years of correctional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of New Mexico or the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Qualifications and Training
- Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements maintain appropriate facility clearance.
Pay
Pay: $19.96/hr.
Schedule
Work schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday
