About the Role
A Case Manager functions at an advanced level of nursing, understanding disease management, critical pathways, and the continuum of care from admission through discharge. The role involves assessing patient needs, facilitating inpatient planning using criteria sets, and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare providers to develop a safe and appropriate plan of care. Case Managers may work in the Emergency Center, Birthing Center, or on medical/surgical floors with inpatients or Observation patients, depending on assignment.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or a health-related field, or equivalent work experience
- Current licensure to practice Nursing in the State of Michigan
- Progression toward or completion of certification in case management
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Five years of clinical experience in nursing
- Recent (within 2 years) experience in utilization review/management, discharge planning, or case management
- Current knowledge of third-party payor programs, requirements, and applied criteria
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations affecting utilization review programs and payments
- Knowledge of regulatory and accrediting agency standards relative to utilization review
