Case Investigator

Location: Cookeville, TN

Duration: 12+ months

Responsibilities

• Case Investigation & Interviewing
  • Call newly diagnosed cases and collect data on symptoms, exposures, and contacts while infectious.
  • Communicate with contacts in a professional, empathetic manner, assuring confidentiality and explaining the use of their information.
  • Record information into a statewide database and ensure data accuracy.
• Health Education
  • Provide cases with approved information about state isolation procedures and monitor compliance.
  • Alert epidemiologists if a case is linked to congregate or high‑risk settings that require additional investigation.
  • Follow established scripts to offer resources for further information or support.
  • Educate outside partners and community stakeholders to help decrease disease spread.
• Data Entry & Maintenance
  • Utilize established databases to identify newly diagnosed patients.
  • Input collected data (symptoms, contacts, etc.) and keep the database up to date.
  • Provide case investigation data to epidemiologists and health educators as needed.
• Contact Tracing
  • Use sensitive interpersonal and cultural‑sensitivity skills to build trust with patients and contacts.
  • Notify exposed individuals promptly, protecting patient privacy by not disclosing the patient’s identity.
  • Educate contacts on risk, isolation, self‑monitoring, and CDC guidance.
  • Check in with contacts to ensure they are self‑monitoring and symptom‑free.
  • Maintain contact‑tracing data in the appropriate software.
