Case Culinary Platform Attendant
About the role
Organize, prepare, and supply various food items for salad bars, cold and hot food stations, and to-order service in a Residential Dining Hall. Assist cooks by combining ingredients, portioning, and serving prepared items. Maintain proper food handling and storage techniques to eliminate waste and spoilage. Work within a diverse workforce and interact directly with customers.
This position is designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations, you are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled. If you have an approved remote work agreement, you may be required to work on-site to serve the MSU community.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and supply food items for salad bars, cold and hot food stations, and to-order service.
- Assist cooks with combining ingredients, portioning, and serving.
- Maintain proper food handling and storage techniques to prevent waste and spoilage.
- Use various methods of food preparation, including sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling, and steaming.
- Ensure freshly cooked products are ready for continuous service using proper methods and production timing.
- Operate knives and standard kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
- Occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of full-time experience in food preparation and use of kitchen equipment.
- Knowledge of kitchen safety practices.
- Ability to read weights and measures, and to weigh and measure ingredients accurately.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) with whole numbers and fractions.
- Knowledge of various food preparation methods.
- Ability to use knives and standard kitchen equipment properly.
Qualifications
- One year of satisfactory experience in a food-related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to anticipate changes in service and customer demands.
- Highly flexible and able to take initiative.
Schedule
- Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Friday: Off
- Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (alternating weekends off).
