About the role
San Francisco CASA is recruiting volunteer advocates who will work 1:1 with a youth to serve as a friend, advocate, and mentor. A CASA can help a young person navigate the child welfare, school and healthcare systems, and ensure they have the support they need to thrive. Many advocates tell us the experience is more rewarding than they ever imagined!
Responsibilities
- Act as a consistent and supportive advocate for a child.
- Visit the child on a regular basis - together you pick the time and activity.
- Build a relationship to better understand the youth's needs and desires.
- Help a child experience the joys of childhood, celebrating birthdays and milestones.
- Review records regarding family, academic, and medical history, and recommend additional support services.
- Communicate the child's needs, strengths and interests in court reports twice annually.
- Communicate and coordinate efforts with the youth's social worker, attorney, and other professionals involved with the case.
